Raffles Mentoring Programme The Raffles Mentoring Programme was initiated by a group of Raffles Junior College students led by Michelle Ong as part of their Community Involvement Programme at the end of 2005. The RJC students submitted the following proposal: “Adolescence brings with it many challenges and experiences unique to each individual. Many are searching for their own unique identity, trying to wean themselves from the dependence on adults, while negating the impacts of peer influence. During this turbulent period, many are in need of advice and understanding that is important in their ultimate development as an individual. Having gone through similar personal struggles, we recognize the need by teenagers for a positive influence in their life, and are placed in a good position to provide such guidance through peer mentorship. Hence, through a variety of activities including academic aid, we would like to help these teenagers through a crucial period of their lives, such that they may eventually emerge as stronger and well adjusted individuals.” Aims of Programme
